BELLS is a collection of antique and vintage wares, clothing and homewares.
Antique & vintage goods are hand picked with a focus on pieces with a wabi-sabi aesthetic. Signs of wear are seen as adding to the beauty of the object all the while being perfectly functional. All fabrics are made from natural fibres and are curated with the intention of being worn season after season becoming staples in your wardrobe or home. Bespoke collections are selected for their natural fibres made by small independent producers often using age old production methods. Our wish is that the pieces you purchase are loved and enjoyed for years to come.

FABRIC CARE & INFO
With longevity at the heart of METTA clothing collections, the following care guide, though we recommend referring to the items particular care instructions first.
To help you look after your Metta garment, all styles have a care label on the inner left hand side, that is specific to that items required care with the fabric content and washing instructions listed.
We don’t recommend using fabric softeners or bleach with Metta garments.
LINEN
Linen styles are crafted from premium linen that is grown, woven and sewn in Europe to create the highest standard in linen garments.
Metta’s linen styles are made from premium European flax linen, pre-washed and ready to wear on arrival. Some are lightly pressed - within no time the fabric will soften with wear, crinkles and wrinkles will come naturally, giving it that stunning un-ironed look that we have all come to love. If you would like to speed up this process, we recommend popping it in the washing machine, following the washing instructions found on your garments care label, and skipping any ironing.
For your first wear we recommend:
Machine wash with a warm setting. Dry on a hanger and wear to soften naturally OR tumble dry and remove it immediately once the cycle has finished. Tumble drying will give it a lovely softness. Rustic linen, linen gauze all respond particularly well to being tumble dried for achieving softness.
Shake out your garment and hang on a hanger.
Skip any ironing after washing to achieve the wonderful crinkled look you see in our images. If you prefer less wrinkles, a simple steam or iron on a high heat will smooth out the fibres.
COTTON
All of Metta’s cotton garments come with their own care label, and we suggest following these closely for longevity of your styles.
Often machine-washable on a cool to warm heat setting and able to be tumble dried or line dried. Tip: to avoid unwanted fold lines hang garment on hanger to dry.
COTTON VOILE & LACE
Machine washable, unless their care tag states otherwise.
Place your cotton voile and lace items in a delicates bag and pop them through a cool gentle/ or hand wash cycle
FRENCH TICKING STRIPE
Ticking Stripe was originally known as ‘ticking fabric’ and made from thickly woven cotton or linen. ‘Ticking’ comes from the Greek word ‘theta’, which means ‘case’ or ‘covering’ as this delightful fabric wa used in the home to cover mattresses. keeping straw and feathers in nicely.
LOVE OF LINEN
Linen, which is technically a vegetable, is made from the cellulose fibers that grow inside of the stalks of the flax plant, or Linum usitatissimum, one of the strongest fibers available today and oldest cultivated plants in human history, dating back to at least 36,000 years BC. Due to its hardwearing and biodegradable qualities, linen is favoured by many for having a lower impact on the environment than other materials.
It is naturally breathable, anti-bacterial, anti-allergenic, and biodegradable. It is both humidity and heat-friendly, yet thermo-regulating and easy to take care of. We love that it softens with time and reveals its natural qualities through gorgeous textures and wrinkles with wear.
JEWELLERY CARE NOTES
All pieces are made by hand using 925 Sterling Silver.
To maintain the silver’s natural “moonshine” like glow, ensure it is kept dry and away from anything that will scratch it when stored (consider storing your piece in the canvas bag it comes with).
Hot soapy water and an old soft toothbrush can remove most dirt.
If the silver has tarnished (gone grey or even black), pieces can be bathed in a runny paste of vinegar, water and baking soda. Soak for 5 minutes, then buff the tarnish away with a soft cloth.
Silvo (available at hardware stores) is also an option, though it is fumy and if not washed off properly, can cause irritation to the skin for some people. Ensure you wash off the excess with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly.
If your piece is looking dull because it is well-worn and scratched, a local jeweller should be able to polish it like new again for a small fee. However, the patina of daily wear is half the charm and a sign that it is real silver and not a cheaper, albeit harder, metal.
